Data retention

View as Markdown

Data retention is set per workspace, on Settings → Workspace → Data retention. It controls how long Sarvam keeps the data your workspace generates before deleting it automatically.

Only a workspace’s org Owner can change retention settings. Other roles can view the current settings but the controls are disabled for them.

Workspace default

Every workspace has one retention period that applies to all its data unless a product overrides it.

1

Open Data retention

Go to Settings → Workspace → Data retention.

2

Pick a retention period

Choose a period from the dropdown under Retention period.

3

Confirm

Save shows a confirmation dialog with the old and new period before it takes effect.

Changing the retention period only affects data going forward. It is not retroactive — data already stored keeps whatever retention applied when it was created; nothing already stored is deleted early or extended by changing the setting.

Product overrides

Below the workspace default, Product overrides lists retention controls per product for the products your workspace uses. Today this covers Voice Agents and Sarvam API; support for the rest of the product line is rolling out.

Each product row has a toggle:

  • Off — the product inherits the workspace default. This is the state for every product until you turn one on.
  • On — reveals a picker, pre-filled with the currently-inherited value. Pick a period and save to set an explicit override for that product only.

Turning a product’s override off after it was on reverts it to inheriting the workspace default immediately — no confirmation step, since nothing is deleted by reverting to inherit.

Voice Agents does not currently support 0-day (zero data retention). If you pick No retention for a product that does not support it yet, the save fails with an error naming the product and the workaround (typically: use the shortest supported period instead).

This ladder can change as Sarvam adjusts what’s offered — the dropdown in the dashboard always reflects the current, authoritative list. If you pick a value the API rejects, the error response names the currently accepted periods.
